Information Technology and Communication: Suggest a tool fur distributing information among a project team geographically distributed among different time zones. Highlight some of the key features that would be beneficial to the team’s challenge of communicating across different time zones. There are multiple tools that can be used for distributing information amount a geographically distributed project team. For documentation storage and sharing, my company uses SharePoint. Anyone on the team can access the latest document there, regardless of their location. The only issues that I have seen happen is when someone doesn’t check out a document when making their updates and when someone updates documents on their personal computer and then doesn’t upload them to SharePoint in a timely manner. Both of those issues can create problems with information accuracy and team members need to be careful to follow guidelines on document updates. This is good for teams across different time zones because the information is available all of the time and team members don’t have to bug other team members for it. They can go get what they need when they need it. Other tools that we use at my company are IM chat groups to chat with the entire project team at one time or just to leave the group open so that if someone has a quick question they can ask it there. It helps to prevent more emails in your inbox, but keeps information flowing. This may not always work if team members are in different time zones and working different schedules. It works for my company because everyone is in the United States and the biggest difference in time is 3 hours.
